The Business of Voice Over
Well, now that summer is finally here for real, it’s a bit of a battle – work in the garden or diligently make people aware of my voiceover services - that never ending search for the right organization, and the right person within that organization, who could make use of my voiceover services. As any savvy voiceover talent knows, the creative part of the job, the fun part of making those words on the page come alive, is just a small part of the business.
I've been busy investigating new ways to get my message across. I've had some fun over the past weekend creating copy and design for a magnetic sign to put on my car. A small thing maybe, but anything that gets my name out there can't hurt, I figure.
I've also put up some new, longer audio book demos on my website giving examples of various different genres. Take a listen.
But my biggest, ongoing battle it seems is the one I mentioned above - finding the right organization ,and the right person within that organization, who hires the voice talent. I put it out to you here - if you know of organizations and people who hire voice talent - let me know! In the meantime, I keep following up on lists and contacts I find wherever I can.
It's just so difficult to stay inside by the computer instead of enjoying the beautiful weather (well, it wasn't today - it rained and thundered all day!).
Here's a couple of versions of the sign design:

Click on the pictures above to get a bigger version. The actual sign will be 24"x12". Let me know which one you prefer.
Okay, based on some early critiques, here's a third version. It may never end!!!

I like all three of those signs - they look wonderful. I think from a purely artistic standpoint the one with no blue (except the mic cable which I would vote to have NOT be blue) looks the best, but one of the others might be easier to read. Maybe the middle one. Just pick one though, and "git 'er done." Good luck with it; what a great idea.
Elaine,
I think your third creation captures the best of both.
Great to see you blogging! Lovely pictures throughout your blog, by the way.
Best regards,
